The Commoneer

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes! We have always loved travel, and are happy to come to you. We have a simple, flat rate of $250 for out of state weddings (we’re based in Virginia), and a $500 fee for travel outside the continental US.

What’s included when we book you?

Our packages are hour-based, and include two lead photographers and hi-res images delivered via online gallery. You can easily share your gallery with friends and family, who can download photos and order prints at their own leisure. To lock in the date, we require a $500 non-refundable retainer and signed contract.

What are your prices?

Wedding coverage starts at $3500. Off-season weddings, November-March, begin at $2800. Planning a small, intimate gathering and only need a few hours coverage? Ready to elope after adding up all this wedding nonsense? Let us know and we’ll customize a package that best suits the day you’re planning. Fill out our contact form and we’ll send you our photo pricing guide with more information.

What does “two lead photographers” mean?

No one can be in two places at once, but we rely on each other to capture what, individually, we may miss. It’s a big advantage for us and our couples to have the freedom to be creative, and to be efficient during portrait time. It allows us blend our documentary shooting style, and to be flexible on a day that has so much to capture.

The FAQs about us

How did “The Commoneer” come about?

Once we decided to both take on photography, we landed on the name The Commoneer for several reasons. One, “Schmid Photography” just doesn’t roll of the tongue, and not being ones to tote our names around, we didn’t go the “Adam + Katie” route either. So we made up a word! Commoneer, to us, encapsulates what we strive to capture when it comes to photography: those common, everyday moments that everyone shares - no matter if it’s a family session, Carportrait, or wedding. To take part in that good ol’ average feeling of enjoying the presence of the one(s) you love. The suffix -eer means “to be associated with,” - we seek out the common moments in life. Simple as that.

Tell me about your wedding!

We loved our wedding and it was perfect, for us. We were married in Churchville, Virginia at a cozy B&B on a chilly September day. We made the weekend into a two day event, inviting all of our guests to the B&B after our rehearsal to share a simple meal together. Not being ones for the spotlight, we had a few people do their toasts and sharing that night, coupled with warm cider and homemade desserts brought by many of our dear friends.

Katie wore her mom’s wedding dress and her girls all made their bouquets a few days before, using dried lavender and wheat. Yellow leaves fell during the ceremony. We laughed and sang and cried. Two long, family style tables were set under trees, decorated with handmade fabric placemats family sewed together, birch tree candle holders that Katie’s dad made, postcards spread about for people to leave messages on. A family friend made the perfect southern bbq meal, and friends played music in the background. It was simple, it was laid back, it was a true merging of us.

What are your non-work related hobbies?

Adam enjoys playing guitar, watching Liverpool Football Club, crafting cocktails, biking and being outdoorsy. Katie loves tending to copious amount of houseplants, cooking, listening to podcasts and being indoorsy. Together, we love traveling, antiquing, eating good food, drinking good drinks and finding a healthy balance of indoorsy and outdoorsy.
